Iris have six petals, usualy in a fleur-de-lis pattern of three upright standards and three downward-curving falls.                        
These may be beareded or crested. Iris come in all colors and have been cultivated since 1500 B.C.E.                       
There are more than 300 species. The name of this flower comes from the Greek goddess of the rainbow. Propogate by division while dormant.                       
Bulbs should be planted 2-3" deep.
