Date posted: October 30, 2009
Dear 4-H’ers,
The County Parks and Recs department is inviting the 4-H’ers to come up with a theme for the 2010 fair. The 2009 theme was: ‘stars and stripes and country nights’
Now is the time to be creative and suggest the new theme. Wouldn’t be nice to see the theme you created in the Premium Book.
The deadline to send your ideas is November 20.

Message from Brian Adams regarding the 2010 Fair
Date posted: October 30, 2009
Thanks for taking the time to meet with Pauli and I. As you gathered from our conversation, we are very interested in gathering information so we can be adequately prepared going into the 2010 Fair. In order to attain success, strong partnerships will be vital. I know you have great leaders and willing volunteers involved with 4H. We are anxious to meet with all of them so we can start building a strong working relationship. We will also be reaching out to FFA, the superintendents, and all other potential partners to ensure we have a successful 2010 Fair.
I also realize some of the 4H groups have had traditional use at the Fairgrounds. We want to find a way to make sure their needs are accommodated into the future. In order to make that happen within the current budget constraints, we will have to be extremely resourceful. Communication is instrumental to finding success in this endeavor, so I would like to make sure I get a 4H meeting schedule from you so that I can answer questions and try to alleviate their concerns.
I appreciate your comments about how to best upkeep the fairgrounds going into 2010. Although we don’t have an everyday presence out there now, we will be placing equipment under cover and will be keeping lights on in certain areas. Although water and heat at the grounds may be turned off in December, we will make sure we are doing daily visits, checking for problems, and doing routine maintenance. To avoid problems with theft, we may also be moving power tools to the JD shop. If moved, the equipment will be tagged and inventoried. All items will be returned to the fairgrounds when we have a fulltime on-site presence (most likely in the Spring). All 4H equipment and/or items will remain at the fairgrounds unless we hear otherwise from 4H leaders/staff.
Again, thanks for your willingness to meet. I am a huge advocate of the Fair. Growing up as a third generation Skagit County resident, I have spent every summer since I was a young child visiting the Fair and am anxious to play a role in its success well into the future. Here in Skagit County, farms are a part of our culture and identity. It is important to have opportunities to showcase this farm culture to the broader public and the Fair is the perfect venue for this. As a hobby farmer myself, I look forward to learning more about our farming industry/community as we work on preparing for the 2010 Fair.
Thank you,
Brian Adams
